Whitney Elizabeth Houston was born to a musical family on August 9th, 1963 in Newark New Jersey the daughter of gospel star Cissy Houston (nee Emily Lee Drinkard) and John Russell Houston Jr. as well as a cousin of the singing sensation Dionne Warwick. In Newark Whitney started singing with the church choir when she was a young child. When she was 15 years old, she joined her mom in the background vocals for Chaka's smash Im Every Woman from 1978. In 1981, she briefly worked as a fashion model, and was featured on the Seventeen album cover. She also performed back vocals for Jermaine and Lou Rawls. The high quality of her performance as the vocalist featured in New York funk group Material attracted the attention of several big record companies, like Arista who she signed in 1982 and continued to work for the remainder of her life. Whitney Houston became the top-selling debut record for an artist in 1985. Songs like The Most Beautiful Love of All, How Can I Tell If You Give Good Love or Saving all My Love were all released on the album. They allowed Houston to reach 7 US top tens which were higher than even the top tens of The Beatles. Album was sold out in US 3,000,000 copies and then reached 25,000,000 copies globally. It earned her the first in her six Grammy Awards. The Whitney sequel in 1987, featuring the singles How Do Broken Hearts GO and I Wanna Dance With Somebody helped to build on the success of her first album. But it was it was the 1992 film The Bodyguard that solidified her position as one of the world's most well-known artists. The film and her part as a character was not appreciated, but the music and her interpretation to Dolly's I Will Always Love You were charting for months at the top of the charts. In all, she sold more than 44 million albums and singles worldwide. The same year that she had her daughter Bobbi, Brown married Bobby Brown of the ex-New Edition group. Around this time when her well-documented drug use began and by 1996 she was an everyday addict.
Dana Bash, also known as Dana Ruth Schwartz, is an American journalist and anchorwoman who works as a political correspondent for CNN. She has created shows for CNN, including Evans & Novak' Late Editionand Inside Politics'. Bash has been awarded numerous awards as well as a spot at the top of the Women in Washington Power List published by Elle magazine.
