Whitney Elizabeth Houston was born to a musical family on August 9th, 1963 in Newark New Jersey the daughter of gospel star Cissy Houston (nee Emily Lee Drinkard) and John Russell Houston Jr. as well as a cousin of the singing sensation Dionne Warwick. In Newark Whitney started singing with the church choir when she was a young child. When she was 15 years old, she joined her mom in the background vocals for Chaka's smash Im Every Woman from 1978. The Whitney sequel in 1987, featuring the singles How Do Broken Hearts GO and I Wanna Dance With Somebody helped to build on the success of her first album. But it was it was the 1992 film The Bodyguard that solidified her position as one of the world's most well-known artists. The film and her part as a character was not appreciated, but the music and her interpretation to Dolly's I Will Always Love You were charting for months at the top of the charts.
