Whitney Houston and Dana Bash
Whitney Elizabeth Houston was conceived in a musical family on 9 August 1993, in Newark New Jersey. Whitney is the cousin of daughter to the singing sensation Dionne. Whitney's mother and her began to sing professionally together in the church of New Hope Baptist of Newark at the age of 15 years old. They sang the backing vocals on Chaka Khan's track in 1978 Im Every Woman. After that, she began to join the backing vocals of Lou Rawls, Jermaine, and even her mother. She began working as a lead vocalist with the band from New York called Material as well. It was her excellence of her vocal work together that brought the attention of major record companies, such as Arista who signed her in 1983, and with whom she was for the rest of her professional career. The year 1985 saw Whitney Houston's debut album was the top-selling debut album of all time. The album contained several hit songs including How Will I know You're Good to Me, Saving All My Love For you and The Greatest Love of All. It was instrumental in her achieving seven US chart-topping songs in succession, a feat that was more than the Beatles. It sold three million copies during its initial year, and 25 million globally. The album won her first six Grammy Awards. The Whitney album of 1987, that featured songs like that I Wanna Dance With Somebody and Where Do Broken Hearts Get to and continued to be a huge success. However, it came with The Bodyguard of 1992 that made her one of the most successful performers in the history of music. Although her performance in the film and soundtrack was not appreciated, the Dolly Parton cover I Will Always Love You as well as the accompanying album topped charts around the globe for months. Her daughter Bobbi was born in March of 1993, a year after she wed Bobby Brown. Around this time, her drug abuse was documented, and she started using it daily in 1996.
